Priscilla and Aquila House Church
Description
The Priscilla and Aquila Community is an unofficial undenominational church facilitated by uncertified Christians in Oak Harbor, WA. We take our inspiration from the ancient Christians Priscilla and Aquila who opened their home and built the original Christian communities, which as far as we can tell did not resemble a system of organized religion but rather a form of unorganized religion – a group of open-hearted authentic people whose daily lives were an answer to the prayer “thy kingdom come on earth.”
We believe that the pulse of God’s love is to be found within all parts of the living earth, making Creation both sacred and alive, and understand the teachings of Jesus Christ and ancient Hebrew tradition to reflect this.
We meet in homes, out on the land, in parks, and sometimes around a fire. Besides giving reverence to the Creator and the Creation, one-anothering is an essential part of the Priscilla and Aquila Community. One-anothering is the practice of cultivating Christian spiritual friendship by actively participating in one another’s lives through mutual love, support, interest, concern, service, and fun. In Celtic Christian tradition, this is referred to as soul friendship (anam cara): deeply personal friendships where brothers and sisters in Christ can reveal their hearts to one another.
Our hope is that each member would feel that they are a known, treasured, and irreplaceable part of the Priscilla and Aquila Community by asking and being regularly asked a variation of the question: “What is it like to be you?”
